by Juliet Sulejmani | March, 07 2016

Today is day one of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF).

VAMFF is a week long celebration of our countries finest established and emerging designers.

VAMFF will play host to a range of events and activities around the city that Melbourne’s fashion savvy folk, have been patiently awaiting and preparing for.

These are some of the events that we can look forward to-

  • Runway Shows
    • Click HERE to find the shows.
  • Beauty Workshops
  • Industry Seminars:
  • Forums
  • Live Entertainment and more.

I went to my super chic friend Steph Jackson and asked her to put together some outfits that she would wear to fashion week, and here is her first look.

Chanel Pre-Fall 2016

Chanel has always been my favourite fashion house, and I have always been a fan of Karl Lagerfeld’s. I like the idea’s the brand was founded on, and I loved that Coco Chanel was such a pioneer with such an amazing style.

Chanel along with Dior are the richest fashion houses, so their shows are always the most exciting to watch , because they can basically make anything they want to. They pretty much have no budget, or should I say an unlimited budget.

My dream is to actually watch one of their shows live. Anyone who has seen luxury clothing in real life, knows that photographs, or even a moving image can never do the clothes justice.

My girl, I think I’m calling her (my alter ego) ‘Girl’ for now. So, Girl, is wearing my favourite piece from the Chanel Pre-Fall 2016 Collection, which was shown in Rome a couple of days ago. I’ve also attached a couple of my other favourite looks from the collection.

Alter Ego

What is an alter ego?

An alter ego is a second self, which is believed to be distinct from a person’s normal or original personality. A person who has an alter ego is said to lead a double life. (Thanks Wikipedia)

I have always wanted to create an alter ego just because I think it would be so much fun.

I haven’t really thought about who exactly this alter ego is, but for now it’s a she and she will be wearing outfits that I don’t think I would ever wear.

Or in the case of this first drawing, she is a Victoria’s Secret Super Model, which is something I will never be.

I don’t know what I’d like to call her yet.

This has got to be one of my favourite illustrations that I have done.

Cate Blanchett is a total babe.

Have you been to the Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition at the NGV? It’s on until February next year, you have plenty of time, but don’t miss out. And you probably have to go more than once, just so you can take it all in.

Above is a collage I made of a few illustrations I drew from the exhibition.

This here is the Comme Des Garcons Spring 2015 Collection.

I’ve been keeping myself super busy with creating these boards and illustrations using illustrator. I’ve found this is a really great way to remember each collection and also identify the silhouettes and specific details of each collection as well.

I basically start off with collecting all the images and putting them in order of how they appear on the runway, and then I pick out all the colours I can see in the collection and then finish off with the sketches.

Comme Des Garcons is always one of my favourites, the designs are so original, creative, and detailed, it’s so amazing.

More experimentation with Photoshop. So fun. Still using Thom Browne Fall 2013 RTW, because, why not, it’s so fucking amazing.

My favourite album at the moment is Kanye West Presents Good Music Cruel Summer. I watched Kanye when he was on tour in Melbourne and he is all I’ve been listening to lately. What are you listening to?

One of my top looks from NYFW S2015 was the one above from The Row. The image above on the left is from from style.com and the one on the left is my illustration.

The Row is a label I am falling more and more in love with each season.

Just in case you weren’t aware, the designers at The Row are Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. They named it “The Row” after Savile Row in London. Mary Kate and Ashely explain the label as being; “…refined, minimal luxury that is wearable. …everything tailored to your body…”

Hi!

I hope you’re all well and happy. Thank you all for reading and following on and for all your comments. Yesterday was the first day of my winter uni holiday and it was a great day. It is so nice being able to make plans with people and plans to actually do things and get things done. My first priority is rest, and then after that organisation. My room has definitely seen better days.

The images above are of my complete Mood board and Range board. I just wanted to show you them completed. I did the range by hand, I did the drawings and then scanned them into the page. I had my design panel interview on Thursday past and I think it went well. There were two teachers and two people from industry. I just showed them my boards, folio, research and my final designs and explained everything.
