I Tried Gymmy Cardio and Lived To Tell My Story
Gymmy Squatz Yarraville
12/157 Hyde Street, Yarraville, VIC 3013
Sent at 5:36 pm to my friend Steph the day before my first Cardio class in a long time.
The previous weekend while having brunch, Steph mentioned that she’d signed up at this place called Gymmy Squatz. And compared to the last two places she'd trained at, she was enjoying this one much more. She told me that the staff were super nice and super accommodating for people at any stage of their fitness journey.
I’d been thinking about getting back into exercising/getting fit/losing some weight/etc. so I was curious to check this place out. However the day before going I needed some reassurance. So I texted steph: ‘Will I die?’. I was serious, well not really, but it’s always daunting when you try a new gym because you have no idea what’s awaiting you.
I walked in and Kanye West’s ‘The Life of Pablo’ was playing. 99.99% of the time, if you walk into a place and they’re playing Kanye West, you know you are in a good place.
I went to the Yarraville Club, which I found out has only been open for two weeks. I was greeted by Rhys, the director and manager of the club and literally jumped right into it, starting my workout with 2 sets of skipping.
Gymmy Cardio was the class of the day. It went for 50 minutes, it was a group circuit class, with 21 different exercises, doing 2x reps of each one. Each rep went for 40 seconds with a 15 second break in between.
I didn’t die. In fact, I loved it.
Some of the exercises were, skipping, planking with your legs raised on a fitball, cycling, sprints, toe taps, sled pushes, and even the battle ropes which I had only ever seen in Khloe Kardashian’s Snap Chat Stories!
I was particularly impressed with the planning of the class, and the easy flow between each exercise. Unlike any where I’ve been so far, Gymmy Squatz has monitors installed which show a video of the exercises you’ll be doing at that particular section. So you know exactly what you’re meant to be doing, plus Rhys was fantastic and was there coaching and motivating us through the circuit.
The class actually reminded me of the cardio boxing classes I used to do, minus the boxing. But unlike classes I’ve done before, Gymmy Squatz thing is to never have two classes be the same. They have a new program each week, with new exercises in each class each time, and as the weeks progress, the classes get a bit harder. That's to ensure you don’t plateau and also to help you improve your fitness and reach those goals.
Yes to Gymmy Cardio, I would definitely do this class again.
Ever since that time I binge watched the Rocky films, I’ve had a sweet spot for boxing...
