A Letter to Dear London

Dear London

Dear London,

We know things feel a bit tough for you right now. Your streets are quiet, parks desolate and bridges empty...and all whilst the sun shines brightly, the skies are crystal clear and the smell of spring is in the air.

It seems like a cruel joke (and the pain is real)...but this too will pass...and it will...because inside each of the houses/flats lie Londoners who are staying home to help their fellow NHS/frontline workers. Who are appreciating the sun through their windows, stopping to listen to the birds tweet for the first time ever, relishing small moments outside (feeling the sun on our skin) and reaching out to help their neighbours (for maybe the first time ever).

As hard as it all seems now, maybe this experience will serve as a mirror - reflecting back on us our flaws and showing us how to enjoy the simple things...how to be more of a ‘pen friend’ then a ‘pencil friend’ (that always cancels), how to hold a conversation with a stranger, how to embrace vulnerability and admit loneliness, and an appreciating how important physical human contact actually is.

ACTIONS (that means following the current advice) mean more than ever right now. Londoners as a lively and stubborn bunch, remember this...

‘You alone can do it, but you can’t do it alone’.

Let’s stay physically apart for now, dear London, so we can once again be all together again.

Lots of love, Camilla ♥️ (the expat and NHS worker that now calls you home).
